Let's Talk Tomatoes

Kim Swecker '19 • April 29, 2021

NMGA President Anna Dalton manages the Knitting Mill Creek Community Garden in the Colonial Place neighborhood.

On May 15th, she will give a short talk about tomatoes focusing on the different varieties and how best to plant them – basically the who, what, when, where, how and even why one would choose certain varieties for their own garden.

Knitting Mill Creek Community Garden has several Master Gardeners with plots at the site. This year we have installed a small demonstration garden featuring All American Selections (AAS) plants grown from seed, nurtured under our grow lights and slowly hardened off in our two compact greenhouses. We have also been busy growing a nice variety of native pollinator plants, AAS flowers and vegetables, heirloom tomatoes and herbs.

You will receive a free plant if you pre-register by emailing knittingmillva@icloud.com. We will verify your registration by emailing you a list of the plants we will be giving away.

Please take a little time to stroll through the site and observe the various gardening techniques. Our garden plots are as unique and varied as our gardeners. Make sure you take a look at our demonstration garden and see if you can spot the trees and shrubs that have QR codes for you to scan and learn!
