Rhonda was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended college at S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. She then moved to Memphis, TN for graduate school. Rhonda moved to Norfolk forty years ago and attended William & Mary for her advanced graduate degree in Counseling. She retired in June, 2022 after a very rewarding career as a licensed psychotherapist, working primarily with children and families.

Rhonda wanted to take the master gardener classes for many years and promised herself she would join when she retired and she kept that promise. She has always loved growing things and visiting gardens on any of her travels and realizes the tremendous benefit that gardening provides for us physically, emotionally and environmentally. She believes the classes were exceptionally well planned and informative. She especially enjoyed the site visits and the tree walk at ODU.

To attain her fifty hours, Rhonda worked at Weyanoke, the Potager Garden at Norfolk Botanical Garden, the Ernie Morgan Eco Garden, Dune Garden, Sentara Garden Therapy Program, and the Significant Tree Program. She plans to continue volunteering at these projects and also include some of the community garden projects. She wants to learn much more about growing food for herself and helping others do the same.

Rhonda is married with four children and five grandchildren who live a few hours from Norfolk and she sees them often.

When she is not digging in the dirt, she enjoys a daily practice of Yoga and other fitness activities along with cooking and traveling.

Rhonda is impressed with the NMG program in their mission to educate and promote the importance of gardening in our community in such an inclusive and enjoyable way and with so many delightful people.

When you see Rhonda, please introduce yourself and welcome her to the Norfolk Extension Master Gardeners.
