Native Dune Garden
This experimental demonstration garden located at north end of 27th Bay Street in East Beach neighborhood was formed as a joint venture between Norfolk Master Gardeners, East Beach Company, and the city of Norfolk. Plantings of goldenrod, gaillardia, sunflowers, swamp elder, wax myrtle are intended to be a beautiful example of the natives that grow in the sand and are salt tolerant. The plants are beneficial in stabilizing the sand and protecting the dune. Participating Norfolk Master Gardeners maintain the garden, and promote it to the general public as a fun and attractive method of mitigating erosion of the dune. We provide maintenance in the garden and are available to meet and greet the public and provide educational information.
